Around 600 BC, the Phocaeans, coming from the Greek city of Phocea in Asia Minor, found cities like Massalia (Marseilles).  Shortly after the foundation of Massalia, they create a trading post named Emporion (Ampurias – Empúries).  This Greek word means a trading post.  Here we see some tourists of before 1910 in front of and on the Greek pier.  The pier protected the entry of the port from the waves.  The picture was made before 1910.
