Around 600 BC, the Phocaeans, coming from the Greek city of Phocea in Minor Asia, found cities like Massalia (Marseilles).  Shortly after the foundation of Massalia, they create a trading post named Emporion (Ampurias – Empúries).  This Greek word means a trading post.  Here we see the Greek pier at the beginning of the 20th century.  The pier protected the entry of the port from the waves.  At the background we see the church of Sant Martí d'Empúries, but the Casa Forestal is not built yet, which allows us to date the picture from before 1910.
Picture June 2013.  When The Greeks builded, it was strong…  In the background we distinguish the Casa Forestal of Sant Martí d'Empúries, built in 1910 in a style which reminds of modernism. It hides partly the church.
